What is counselling?

A brief introduction

Counselling provides an opportunity to explore personal difficulties in a confidential and safe environment.

Sometimes, relationships, feelings, and memories can interfere with our ability to live a fulfilling life.
By exploring these challenges, we can cultivate self-awareness, achieve a sense of acceptance, and acquire the tools we need to grow and make choices.

About me

Academic and professional experience

Hi, I'm Rosie!

I work with a range of clients, from age 11+, helping them to explore things that are important to them and develop necessary skills for personal growth.

I am an integrative counsellor who leans on a humanistic approach, working collaboratively with my clients to use interventions based on what works best for them and the issues they bring to therapy. A key part of my person centred approach is the importance of the therapeutic relationship in our work. I also draw on my knowledge and training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and enjoy working creatively where clients find this helpful.

Frequently asked questions

Common answers

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes. Where appropriate or necessary we can agree a more suitable arrangement.

I work in an open-ended way with both long and short-term clients. That means that I am led by the client's needs in terms of how long they need (and want) to attend counselling for. We will discuss this in our introductory session and agree to review, roughly every 6-8 sessions, to check progress and to make sure you are still benefiting from counselling.
However, it is also important that we agree a planned ending which we can set in the introductory session or later in our work.

Usually, I work with clients once a week. However, this is dependent on the issue and needs of the client. Thereby, we will agree this in the introductory session.

During our first session, we will discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and possible goals you would like to work towards. This session will be more about getting to know each other so that we may decide if we would like to work together.

I work on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 6pm - 9pm.
I have can offer some flexibility to these hours so please contact me to discuss my availability.

Some of the areas I work with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Bereavement
  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Relationships
  • Religious and Spirituality
  • Self-harm
  • Stress
  • Trauma

Yes, I aim to meet with parents/guardians and their child in the initial introductory session before counselling begins. In some cases, it is appropriate (or necessary) for parents/guardians to attend on occasions when sessions are reviewed. This gives parents/guardians the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns they have.
